My journey began in Kuwait with a flight to Turkey, and from there on to Albania. Landing in Tirana, I knew I had stepped into a place where history, culture, and energy blend seamlessly.
Three Days in Tirana
For three days, Tirana became my playground. Skanderbeg Square was my daily starting point—a grand open space alive with people, framed by the National History Museum, Et’hem Bey Mosque, and colorful government buildings.
I spent peaceful afternoons in the Grand Park of Tirana, its lake reflecting the golden sun, before riding the Dajti Ekspres cable car up to Mount Dajti. The city unfolded beneath me as I ascended into the crisp mountain air, where wooded trails and panoramic views awaited.
At night, Tirana transformed. Cafés turned into lively gathering spots, rooftop bars offered city views under the stars, and the streets were full of music, laughter, and the hum of conversation. The nightlife here is friendly, unpretentious, and full of local charm—perfect for ending each day on a high note.
The Scenic Road to Shkodër
After three days in the capital, I boarded a bus for Shkodër. The journey north was breathtaking—rolling green hills, winding rivers, and mountains that seemed to follow us all the way.
Cycling Through Shkodër
In Shkodër, I checked into a hotel and rented a mountain bike. It was the best way to explore this laid-back city—pedaling past the grand mosque, through quiet neighborhoods, and toward Rozafa Castle. The climb to the fortress was steady, but the reward was worth it: stone walls steeped in history, panoramic views of Lake Shkodër, and the powerful legend of Rozafa that still resonates here.
Velipoja Beach – Albania’s Hidden Coastal Gem
One of my most memorable side trips was to Velipoja Beach, a coastal stretch unlike any other in the region. Its soft sands and gentle waves made it perfect for a relaxing escape, while the views across the Adriatic were simply breathtaking. It felt like a place untouched by the heavy crowds of more famous European beaches—a hidden gem just waiting to be enjoyed.
Exploring the Villages
Shkodër is also a gateway to some of Albania’s most picturesque villages. I visited small communities where life moves slowly, houses are framed by mountains, and locals greet visitors with warm smiles. Stone houses, winding lanes, and fields dotted with grazing animals made each village feel like stepping back in time.
Nights in Shkodër
As evening fell, Shkodër revealed a quieter but equally charming nightlife. Restaurants served hearty traditional meals, while small bars and cafés offered music, conversation, and a taste of local life under the soft glow of streetlights.
Reflections
From Tirana’s vibrant streets to Shkodër’s peaceful lakeside charm, Albania offered me a journey full of variety—urban energy, historic depth, coastal beauty, and rural simplicity. Whether cycling up to Rozafa Castle, watching the sunset at Velipoja Beach, or wandering through mountain villages, every moment felt like a discovery I’ll never forget.
