Kuwait Traffic Department Advises Vehicle Checks for Rainy Season

Kuwait’s Traffic Department has issued guidance for motorists as rainy weather approaches, urging drivers to conduct thorough vehicle checks before travelling. Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Bu Hassan, Assistant Director of the Traffic Awareness Department, emphasized that rain reduces visibility and tire grip on road surfaces, making preventive maintenance critical.

Drivers should inspect tires, brakes, windshield wipers and lights, and maintain safe distances from other vehicles while adjusting speed to match road and weather conditions. Bu Hassan advised motorists to stay informed about road closures and traffic diversions by following the Ministry of Interior’s official social media accounts, and to use navigation applications to identify alternative routes.

For those planning desert trips and recreational activities, the department stressed selecting locations away from main roads and highways. Vehicles should never be parked along the sides of main or express roads, as this creates hazards for other road users. Off-road motorcyclists are urged to avoid main roads entirely and practise only in designated, safe locations.

Pedestrians should use designated crossing points, while drivers must remain especially alert in busy areas. The Traffic Department emphasized that following traffic regulations and taking weather precautions are essential to reducing accidents and protecting lives.

What This Means for Expats: As rainy season approaches, expat drivers should prioritize vehicle maintenance and follow local traffic guidance to ensure safe commuting across Kuwait’s roads.
