Kuwait’s Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila has referred suspected cases of public fund misappropriation at the Public Authority for Disability Affairs to the Public Prosecution.
Speaking to KUNA, Al-Huwayla confirmed this was the second referral within a week, following an investigation into violations related to maintenance works and contracts. The inquiry revealed that payments were made for quantities and work that were not fully executed on the ground. The suspected financial damage from these violations totals KD 1.211 million, equivalent to approximately $3.95 million.
The minister emphasized that protecting public funds is a non-negotiable responsibility and stated that all cases involving potential criminal violations will face legal and administrative action. Authorities are committed to recovering any funds determined to have been improperly disbursed.
Al-Huwayla stressed that accountability will apply to anyone proven responsible or negligent, regardless of their position. She pledged continued oversight to ensure integrity and proper management of public funds at the authority.
The investigation focused on examining whether contracted work and maintenance services were actually delivered as invoiced, uncovering discrepancies between payments made and work completed. This discovery prompted the formal referral to prosecution authorities.
