Kuwait Mourns Martyred Naval Officers Amid Iranian Missile and Drone Attacks
Kuwait is mourning the loss of two naval officers who were martyred while performing their national duties. Staff Sergeant Waleed Majed Sulaiman and Sergeant Abdulaziz Abdulmohsen Dakhel Nasser were killed on Monday evening as the country confronted a wave of Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting its airspace.
The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army announced the martyrdom of the two servicemen and expressed their deepest condolences, praying for God to grant them mercy and admit them into Paradise. The martyrs were laid to rest on Tuesday.
Regionally, expressions of solidarity poured in from Saudi Arabia, the Gulf Cooperation Council, Qatar, and Jordan, who all conveyed their condolences and affirmed full support for Kuwait’s efforts to safeguard its sovereignty and stability.
The Kuwaiti armed forces confirmed they are dealing with the Iranian aggression, stressing their full readiness to confront all threats. They revealed that 178 ballistic missiles and 384 drones had been detected and intercepted as a result of the attacks. 27 military personnel were injured, with two still under medical treatment.
The ministry of foreign affairs condemned the “blatant Iranian attack” that targeted the United States Embassy in Kuwait, stating that it constitutes a flagrant violation of international laws and norms. Kuwait reaffirmed its right to take all necessary measures to protect its security, territory, and those residing within it.
The US Embassy announced the suspension of its consular services until further notice due to the current regional conditions, canceling all regular and emergency appointments until normal operations resume.
Kuwaiti authorities are closely monitoring the situation, emphasizing heightened readiness, unified coordination among security and military sectors, and strict enforcement of the law. They have also warned against filming or publishing footage of missile interceptions, as well as engaging with accounts or groups claiming cyberattacks or spreading unverified information.
