Kuwait Tightens Market Monitoring to Protect Consumers and Ensure Food Security

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Kuwait has initiated extensive inspection tours of central markets and cooperative societies to ensure compliance with the ministerial decision to stabilize food commodity prices. Faisal Al Ansari, the Director of the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Department, stated that the inspections conducted at several cooperative societies did not reveal any price increases, indicating that the associations are adhering to the ministry’s instructions.

Al-Ansari stressed that the inspection teams will continue monitoring markets to ensure full compliance with the decision. Any violations or unjustified price changes will result in offenders being referred to the relevant legal authorities, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to protecting consumers and maintaining market stability.

The ministry, in coordination with the Union of Cooperative Societies and the Ministry of Social Affairs, has completed the process of supplying all 92 food distribution centers with the necessary commodities while facilitating procedures for cooperative societies to ensure smooth delivery to central markets. Government entities are working in continuous coordination to secure essential goods for citizens and residents across all regions by closely monitoring stock levels and facilitating supply chains, thereby strengthening food security and ensuring market stability, particularly during periods of high consumption.

Additionally, there is direct cooperation with Kuwait Flour Mills and Bakeries Company to boost bread production and ensure adequate supplies at all distribution centers, meeting local demand and guaranteeing the availability of fresh bread for citizens and residents.
