Kuwait’s international air connectivity is strengthening as airlines restore and expand services heading into September. Turkish Airlines is leading this recovery, increasing its Istanbul–Kuwait service to seven flights weekly from September 1, effectively restoring daily connections between the two cities.
According to Turkish Airlines’ latest schedule, the Kuwait-bound service will operate from Terminal 4, with the Kuwait–Istanbul departure returning to its original 06:35 timing. Kuwait International Airport’s published timetable confirms daily Turkish Airlines operation from September 1 through October 24, with flight TK770 arriving from Istanbul at 05:40 and TK771 departing Kuwait at 06:35. The airline is already selling Kuwait–Istanbul services throughout September, with availability showing across the month.
This expansion is significant for passengers travelling not only to Turkey but also to Europe, North America and other destinations where Istanbul serves as a major transit hub. For airlines, the increase reflects renewed confidence in demand from Kuwait and the wider regional market.
Turkish Airlines’ move occurs within a broader recovery of Kuwait’s aviation sector. Qatar Airways maintains daily services on the Kuwait–Doha route, connecting passengers through Hamad International Airport. Saudi Arabian Airlines operates daily Riyadh–Kuwait services, while Emirates continues connecting Kuwait with Dubai. The Kuwait airport’s published timetable lists numerous carriers including Etihad Airways, flydubai, Air Arabia, Gulf Air, Oman Air, SalamAir, Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways, alongside Indian and Asian carriers such as Air India Express, IndiGo and SriLankan Airlines.
For Kuwait’s large expatriate population, increased frequencies mean more than additional seats. More flights translate into greater choice of departure times, better connections, reduced dependence on a single transit hub and potentially more competitive fares. This is particularly relevant for passengers travelling to the Indian subcontinent and Asia, where airlines serving Kuwait connect through Istanbul, Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Jeddah, Bahrain and Muscat.
The breadth of services is important for passengers depending on Gulf hubs for onward travel to India, Pakistan, Southeast Asia, Europe and the Americas. Turkish Airlines’ expanded schedule adds another strong international option, providing an alternative to traditional Gulf transit points such as Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi.
However, travellers should note that published schedules can still change. The Times Kuwait recommends checking individual flight status with airlines before heading to Kuwait International Airport, particularly given continuing volatility affecting regional airspace and operations.
What This Means for Expats: With Turkish Airlines now offering daily flights and multiple Gulf carriers maintaining strong connectivity, expats have significantly more flexibility for travel to home countries and onward destinations, with better choice of departure times and potentially lower fares.
