In a step toward easing traffic congestion, the Council of Ministers has approved a final report by the Ministry of Interior that outlines 6 key traffic solutions-short, medium, and long-term-and assigned 9 government agencies to implement them.
Short-term measures (within 1-2 years) include increasing shared school buses to reduce traffic during peak hours and applying flexible working hours, evening shifts, and staggered school timings. Medium-term plans (3-5 years) involve reactivating the Traffic Congestion Committee and enhancing the role of the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport in regulating mass transportation. Long-term strategies (5+ years) focus on developing the road network, adopting Kuwait Municipality’s fourth structural plan, and studying upgrades to major roads like the Sixth and Seventh Ring Roads.
The Ministry of Interior will oversee coordination and follow-up among the involved bodies, which include the Ministries of Finance, Public Works, Education, Transportation, and others. Each agency is required to submit monthly progress reports, ensuring effective monitoring. The government aims for a comprehensive, practical, and sustainable solution to Kuwait’s ongoing traffic problems.
