Kuwait’s Ministry of Health is prioritising the development of medical professionals and scientific research to strengthen the country’s healthcare system. Minister of Health Dr Ahmed Al-Awadhi made this clear while opening the second Internal Medicine Conference at Al-Adan Hospital on Saturday.
Al-Awadhi emphasised that scientific conferences and professional forums are vital for building a culture of research and continuing medical education. These gatherings allow doctors to exchange expertise, discuss advances in diagnosis and treatment, and apply the latest medical knowledge in clinical practice.
Al-Adan Hospital, which began providing health services in 1980 and officially opened in 1981, has made significant progress over its 45 years of operation. The hospital’s Department of Internal Medicine has expanded considerably, with advances in clinical hematology, neurological conditions, stroke and movement disorders. It has also developed specialised clinics for obesity, digestive and respiratory diseases, and geriatric care.
The minister highlighted the rapid progress of precision medicine, digital technologies and artificial intelligence, stressing that doctors must continue updating their skills. However, he emphasised that technological progress cannot replace the expertise and clinical judgement of qualified doctors, which remains an indispensable foundation of healthcare.
Dr Khalil Shweiker, head of the Internal Medicine Department, noted that such scientific meetings create opportunities for direct interaction among medical professionals and sharing of practical clinical experience.
What This Means for Expats: Expat healthcare workers in Kuwait can benefit from these professional development initiatives and conferences, which provide platforms for staying current with medical advances and connecting with colleagues across specialties.
