Kuwait’s Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi has issued a ministerial decision establishing an Epidemiology and Cancer Registry Department at the Kuwait Cancer Control Center (KCCC). The new department will develop a comprehensive, accurate national database on cancer cases and indicators.
According to a Ministry of Health press statement, this decision is part of ongoing efforts to improve Kuwait’s cancer control system and make greater use of health data to support preventive and treatment planning, policymaking and scientific research.
The department will strengthen the monitoring and tracking of cancer cases and improve data quality and analysis according to medical and scientific standards. This capability will allow authorities to monitor cancer incidence, mortality and survival rates and their changes over the years. Statistical indicators will help identify future trends and support prevention, diagnosis and treatment efforts.
The Ministry of Health emphasized the importance of strengthening Kuwait’s scientific presence by involving the cancer registry in studies and cooperation with relevant international organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and specialized international cancer registry and research bodies.
Data used for research will remain subject to ethical approvals, auditing and review procedures, and Ministry of Health regulations. The ministry noted that the department’s establishment represents an organizational step toward strengthening cancer surveillance and turning data into practical indicators for health planning, scientific research and healthcare quality assessment.
The new department will support national cancer control programs and promote health decisions based on data and scientific evidence, the ministry pointed out.
